What Are Tweet Caps?

Tweet Caps are SmarterQueue-defined limits on how many posts can be published to X (Twitter) from your account within set periods.

They exist because X (Twitter) places strict limits on how much third-party tools can post through their API. Since SmarterQueue pays for that API access on behalf of our customers, Tweet Caps ensure you can continue publishing reliably without running into those restrictions, and that all customers have fair access to X (Twitter) posting.

How Tweet Caps Work

Each SmarterQueue account has both a Daily Cap and a Weekly Cap for X (Twitter) publishing.

These caps apply across all X (Twitter) profiles you connect, meaning the allowance is shared account-wide rather than per profile.

All Tweet Caps reset automatically every Monday at 00:00 GMT.

Here’s how it works in practice:

  • If your Daily Tweet Cap is 2, you can only publish 2 Tweets total per day, no matter how many profiles you have connected.

Those Tweets can be split in any way across your profiles — for example:

    • 2 Tweets on one profile, or
    • 1 Tweet each on two different profiles.
  • If you’ve connected more profiles than your Daily Cap allows, some profiles may go without a Tweet that day.
  • Your Posting Plan can account for this by rotating which profiles get Tweets on different days, ensuring that while not every profile will publish daily, each one will still get regular coverage across the week.

What Happens If You Reach Your Cap

When your Daily or Weekly Cap is reached, SmarterQueue cannot publish additional Tweets until the reset.

If you try to post a tweet once you've reached your Daily and/or Weekly Tweet Cap, the post will automatically fail. Simply reschedule the post to publish once your Tweet Caps have reset.

By planning your Posting Plan around your cap, you can make sure priority Tweets are published first and remaining posts are automatically covered in the next available window.

How To Increase Your Tweet Cap

If you regularly need to publish more Tweets than your current allowance, you can increase your limits with the Tweet Cap add-on.

To do this:

  1. Open the pricing page and go to "Third-Party Integrations" at the bottom of the page.
  2. Choose the Tweet Cap add-on size that suits your needs.
  3. Go through checkout with your updated plan.
  4. The new limit will apply immediately, so you don’t need to wait for the next reset.

How Tweet Caps Relate To Other Limits

Tweet Caps are unique to X (Twitter) and separate from other SmarterQueue limits, such as the number of posts per profile per day or the number of profiles included in your plan.

While other platforms don’t require this type of restriction, Tweet Caps are necessary for X (Twitter) publishing. They make sure your posts are delivered reliably, and that all SmarterQueue customers continue to have access without hitting the platform’s external limits.
