Variations allow you to automatically switch between different captions or media every time your Evergreen post is recycled. This feature helps keep your content fresh and engaging, without having to manually rewrite or update your posts.

How To Add Text Variations

  1. Navigate to the Post Editor and start working on your post.
  2. Click "Add Variation" under your post caption to duplicate it into a new text box.
  3. Edit the new text box with your variation for the post caption.
  4. Repeat step 2 (duplicating the preferred text box) to add as many variations as needed.
  5. You can drag and drop the text boxes to change their order.

How To Add Media Variations

  1. Navigate to the Post Editor and start working on your post.
  2. Click the camera icon to upload multiple media files.
  3. Click "One image/video per cycle" to label each image, GIF, or video as a variation.
  4. Rearrange the media by dragging and dropping them into the desired order.

How To Combine Text And Media Variations

  1. Add both text and media variations as described in the steps above.
  2. Go to the “Preview” pane on the right-hand side and use the arrows to check how each text and media pairing will look.
  3. If you want to sync specific text to specific images, make sure the order of both text and media matches your desired pairing (see more information on pairing Variations in the steps below)

How To Reorder, Delete, Or Pair Variations

Reordering Variations

Easily drag-and-drop text and media variations to ensure they are paired correctly and appear in the exact order you want for your future posts. 

Deleting Variations

To delete a variation, click the trash can icon next to any text variation you want to remove, or the “X” in the top-right corner of any media variation to delete it.

Pairing Text and Media Variations

You can pair specific text captions with specific media to control how each post is presented:

  • Equal Numbers of Text and Media Variations: When you have the same number of text and media variations, the system will pair them in the exact order they are listed. For example, Text Variation 1 will pair with Media Variation 1, and so on.
  • Unequal Numbers of Variations: If the number of text and media variations doesn’t match, SmarterQueue will cycle through all possible pairings. For example, with 3 text variations and 4 media variations, you’ll get 12 unique posts (each text paired with each media).
  • Repeating Pairings: If you want a specific text variation to appear with multiple media, make sure to duplicate the text variation or reorder it to appear with the media of your choice.

Common Questions

1. How can I customize variations for each social profile?

When creating a post for multiple social profiles, you can customize all post components for each profile, including the text and media variations. Select the profiles you want, then toggle the “Customize per profile” option to tailor your messaging and media to fit the audience on each social platform.

2. What happens if I run out of variations?

SmarterQueue will cycle through all available variations for your post. Once the last variation is published, the first variation will be used again. If you want a post to expire after all variations are used, set an Evergreen expiry option when creating your post.

3. How do links work with variations?

Any link you add to a post will automatically be included in all text variations. Be sure to add your link before setting up text variations so it gets copied automatically across all versions of your post.
