Why Do I Need To Re-Authorize Permissions?
Meta permissions are required in order to successfully use your Facebook, Instagram, and Threads profiles with SmarterQueue.
You may need to re-authorize these permissions if:
- Your Facebook Page or Instagram profile isn’t appearing when trying to connect
- Posts are failing to publish
- Your profile keeps disconnecting
Common Reasons Re-Authorization Is Needed:
- You may have accidentally removed required permissions when editing settings on Facebook.
- You granted granular permissions (only selecting specific profiles), which can prevent SmarterQueue from accessing other Facebook Pages or Instagram accounts, leading to connection or publishing issues.
- A newly added Facebook Page won’t appear until you re-authorize, giving it the same access as existing ones.
- Facebook, Instagram, or Threads may invalidate your token for security reasons (e.g., after a password change), requiring you to reconnect to refresh your access.
How To Re-Authorize Your Meta Permissions
Follow the steps below to re-authorize permissions for your Facebook Pages and Instagram profiles connected to SmarterQueue via a Facebook Page. This ensures SmarterQueue has the necessary access to manage and publish content successfully.
1. On the Facebook website, go to "Settings & privacy" while logged in to your Facebook Profile.
2. Continue to "Settings" > "Business Integrations".
📝 Note: If you don't see Business Integrations right away, click "Security and login" first. This will reveal the option.
3. Once you've reached Business Integrations, find the SmarterQueue App and click on the "Remove" button.
📝 Note: If SmarterQueue doesn’t appear under “Business Integrations”, check "Apps and websites" instead.
4. Read the pop-up, then click "Remove" again to confirm.
5. After the final confirmation, click "Done".
6. Return to the SmarterQueue website, click the "Organization Settings" gear icon (âš™) in the top right, and select "Social Profiles".
7. Look for your disconnected Facebook Pages or Instagram profiles under the "Disconnected Profiles" section. Click "Reconnect" next to each one.
📝 Note: If you're re-authorizing for an Instagram profile connected via a Facebook Page, reconnect the Facebook Page first.
📝 Note: If the Page/Profile doesn’t appear as disconnected, click the three-dot menu next to it and choose "Re-connect profile" manually.
8. You’ll be redirected to Facebook. A pop-up will confirm you're logged in as the correct user. Click "Edit access" first to review and ensure you're granting all permissions.
9. In the permissions screen, ensure all toggles are enabled. Without full access, SmarterQueue won't be able to publish to your profiles. This is simply an authorization step inside Facebook. You'll be able to choose which Pages to connect to SmarterQueue later.
📝 Note: We strongly recommend granting access to all of your Pages and Instagram profiles. Avoiding granular permissions helps prevent publishing errors caused by known API bugs and makes it easier to connect additional profiles later.
10. Scroll to the top of the permissions window and click the "X" to return to the previous screen.
11. Then click "Continue as" to complete the authorization.
12. You’ll return to SmarterQueue, where you’ll see a list of Facebook Pages linked to your Profile. Select the ones you want to reconnect and click "Re-Connect".
📝 Note: You can now continue by reconnecting your Instagram profiles. If prompted again for Meta permissions, be sure to grant full access.
Great job! You've re-authorized your Meta permissions and reconnected your profiles in SmarterQueue. You can now re-queue any failed posts and resume publishing 🎉
How To Re-Authorize Your Instagram Permissions
Instagram allows you to revoke permissions for apps connected to your profile, including third-party schedulers like SmarterQueue. This is particularly relevant if your Instagram profile is connected directly (not via a Facebook Page), as permissions are managed through Instagram itself.
📝 Note: If your Instagram profile is connected via a Facebook Page, you’ll need to revoke permissions from Facebook > Business Integrations (as per steps above).
If you revoke permissions for SmarterQueue:
- The connection between your Instagram profile and SmarterQueue will be fully removed.
- SmarterQueue will no longer be able to publish posts on your behalf.
Follow these steps to revoke and re-authorize Instagram permissions:
1. On the Instagram website, click on the "More" hamburger menu at the bottom left and select "Settings".
3. Then click on "Apps and Websites".
4. Find the SmarterQueue App and click the "Remove" button.
5. A pop-up will confirm the removal. Click "Remove" again.
This will not affect your SmarterQueue account or previously published content.
6. Return to the SmarterQueue website and go to your Profiles page. Click "Reconnect" next to your Instagram profile.
📝 Note: If the Profile doesn’t appear as disconnected, click the three-dot menu next to it and choose "Re-connect profile" manually.
7. You'll be prompted to confirm the new connection. Click "Allow" to re-authorize SmarterQueue.
You’ve successfully re-authorized Instagram permissions and can now re-queue any failed posts and resume publishing 🎉
How To Re-Authorize Your Threads Permissions
Threads allows you to revoke app permissions, which can help resolve publishing errors or connection issues caused by permission changes or API-related problems.
Follow these steps to revoke and re-authorize SmarterQueue permissions for your Threads profile:
1. On the Threads website, click the "Menu" button in the bottom left, then click "Settings".
2. Click "Account" at the top, then choose "Website permissions".
3. Under Active, click on "Remove" for the SmarterQueue app, and confirm when prompted.
4. Return to the SmarterQueue website in your browser and go to your Profiles page. Click "Reconnect" next to your Threads profile.
📝 Note: If the profile doesn’t appear as disconnected, click the three-dot menu next to it and choose "Re-connect profile" manually.
5. You’ll be prompted to confirm the connection. Follow the on-screen steps to re-authorize SmarterQueue.
That’s it! You’ve re-authorized your Threads permissions and reconnected your profile. You can now re-queue any failed posts and resume publishing 🎉
Why Do I Need To Be An Admin Of My Facebook Page To Connect It To SmarterQueue
To re-authorize a Facebook Page in SmarterQueue, your personal Facebook Profile must have the Page Admin role for that Page. Users with other roles, such as Editor, Moderator, Advertiser, or Analyst, cannot complete the re-authorization process.
For more information, see these Facebook Help Center articles:
- What are the different Page roles and what can they do?
- How do I see what my role is on a Page?

When connecting a Facebook Page or an Instagram profile linked to a Page, you’ll be asked to grant several levels of permissions.
While it may appear that you're granting SmarterQueue access to your personal Facebook Profile, rest assured, this is not the case. SmarterQueue cannot manage or post to your personal profile in any way.
This is simply how Facebook handles third-party integrations: You must first authorize access through your personal Profile, then grant permission to manage your connected Pages and Instagram profiles.
